Over The Hill Club Notes 22nd July 2017

The past week has been busy completing final preparations for the club cycle from Malin to Mizen. Cyclists will leave Watergrasshill by bus early on Wednesday morning, 25th July. The cycle will be completed over four days. Last Wednesday night saw big numbers on the road with three groups completing a 52km route which included the climb to Cappagh Cross, on to Ballyhooley and Glanworth, returning via Fermoy.

Saturday morning saw the peleton head east. Two groups headed for Midleton, and on for Dungourney, and Tallow. The road from Tallow to Camphire and Cappoquin was easy pedaling along the edge of the Blackwater. After refreshments in Barrons Bakery in Cappoquin, the group returned to Watergrasshill via Lismore and Conna. A few punctures slowed progress, but the good weather ensured that the cycle was enjoyable. The cycle proved to be very educational for the first group, with club muck savage, Brian Atkinson giving a running commentary on the various types of agricultural machinery encountered. All cyclists returned to the village knowing the difference between a silage harvester and a big M.
The Sunday morning group was small but select. The cycle headed for Beennaskehy, and turned south climbing to Bottlehill. After coffee in Whitechurch, the group headed back to the village through Whites Cross.
There will be no organised club cycles on Wednesday 25th, Saturday 28th, or Sunday 29th  due to the large numbers undertaking the Malin to Mizen trip. Normal service will be resumed next week.
