Over The Hill Cycling Club Notes 18th November 2018

Last Saturday saw a big peloton head north for Mountain Barrack and Mitchelstown. The group returned through Fermoy, stopping for refreshments at Amber. Everybody was glued to their televisions on Saturday evening as Ireland took on the All Blacks. Club member, Dave Revins acts as physical therapist to the Irish team. Dave had a huge part to play on the night, with Joe Schmidt entrusting him with the team talk. Dave told the Irish players that if an old codger like Tom O'Sullivan could cycle all the way from Malin to Mizen, there was no reason they couldn't be victorious. Dave also had a role to play in the all important try, getting the Irish players to shout some of Deccie Brady's directions to the All Blacks. This worked a treat, as there is nothing surer, than Deccie's directions sending everyone the wrong way. The All Black's defence took off in the wrong direction. This allowed Jacob Stockdale to skeet in for the match winning score.
The Sunday spin headed to Fermoy via Conna and Coolagowan.  The beautiful weather made for a thoroughly enjoyable cycle. Cycling on the karting track at Adventurepark Watergrasshill continued last Tuesday night. This is a great initiative and will run for the next number of weeks. The hour long cycle is proving very popular with members, and allows for safe cycling under lights.
Preparations are ongoing for the Over The Hill Cycling Club cyclocross event which will take place at Ballindenisk Watergrasshill on the 16th December 2018. Different courses were trialed over the weekend. The course promises to be tough and exciting on the day.

Club cycles continue on Saturday and Sundays. Details will be posted on club Facebook page. The club is always delighted to welcome new members. On Sunday mornings at 9am, all levels of cyclists are catered for, with the group split into 3 levels. New members are very welcome to turn up and cycle provided they have a racing bike, a helmet, and are over 18.
