The following email is from Pat McHugh and Mike Horgan.
Junior cycling Pilot in conjunction with Over the Hill CC.
We are looking at running a junior cycling pilot program throughout the summer. The aim of this is to is to teach children bike handling skills, keep fit, and have confidence on their bikes while at the same time having some fun. We are aiming to run the Cycling Ireland “Sprocket Rocket” program as a pilot over 12 weeks starting mid June.
We are looking to establish the interest of current Club members prior to publicising externally. As this is a pilot we want to establish a foundation to make this as successful as possible. With this in mind we will limit the initial group of children to ensure the program is run in a safe and fun environment.
What does it involve:
Once per week on a Monday night over 12 weeks:
What Age Group:
We are looking at doing the pilot program for 6 to 14 year olds. The only thing we ask is that the child can cycle.
Where will it happen:
Kartworld in Watergrasshill have kindly made their facilities available which is a safe environment for kids to learn.
What bike is needed?
Whatever bike is available as long as it is in good working order. Over time the level of interest may result in a Pinarello Dogma being on the Santa list but for now anything will do.
What about Insurance?
After 3 spins the child will have to be registered with cycling Ireland. The cycling Ireland Insurance is currently €5 for U10 and €10 for U12/U14
Initially we will ask that parents remain for the sessions so any help would be greatly appreciated.
