Over The Hill Cycling Club Notes 9th December 2018

It was an early start last Saturday morning for the Spintahon Event which took place at Ross's Centra in Watergrasshill. First up on the turbo trainers at 8am were Bernard Burke and Fergal O'Sullivan. The lads set the tempo and atmosphere for what was a very rewarding day. Mid morning saw younger members of the club demonstrate their pedaling skills. Josh Horgan, Alex Magner, Sean McHugh, Conor McHugh, Daniel O'Connor, Cillian O'Connor, Donagh McHugh, Ellen Carroll, Ellen Heaphy, and, Lee Kelly all did their bit to keep the turbos spinning. The spinathon continued until 9pm. The event raised almost € 3,000 for Cork Penny Dinners. A massive thank you to Ross's Centra for facilitating the event, and the community of Watergrasshill for their generosity. The man that made it all happen, and smiled all day, Nigel Carroll also deserves massive credit.
Preparations are ongoing for our Hillcross races on Sunday 16th December at Ballindenisk. There will be a full programme of Cyclocross races for underage and adults. There promises to be a top class field, with newly crowned munster champions Richard Maes and Grace Young set to race. Former national road race champion, Fiona Meade is also among the entries. Emmet Fennell and Dermot Brosnan are set to fly the flag for the host club. There will be full catering facilities on site to keep racers and spectators nourished. There will be no entry charge on the day for spectators. Entries for the adult races can be made online at https://cyclingireland.azolve.com/workbench/public/events?ref=8EE77DB8364DB7A5800AE286E313B306A879F328
Cycling on the karting track at Adventurepark Watergrasshill continued last Tuesday night. This is a great initiative and will run for the next number of weeks. The hour long cycle is proving very popular with members, and allows for safe cycling under lights.
Club cycles continue on Saturday and Sundays. Details will be posted on club Facebook page. The club is always delighted to welcome new members. On Sunday mornings at 9am, all levels of cyclists are catered for, with the group split into 3 levels. New members are very welcome to turn up and cycle provided they have a racing bike, a helmet, and are over 18.
