Over The Hill Cycling Club Notes 3rd March 2019

There was two groups hit the road last Saturday morning. Donal led a crack group on a short but testing spin which included the climb from Leary's Cross to the Creamery Farm.  Peter Power led the time trial group from Midleton. The lads completed the earthquake route as a reconnaissance for next weekends event. The earthquake cycle is an annual event organised by Midleton based kiwi, Phil Cunningham. The event was originally held to raise much needed funds following the 2011 earthquake in Christchurch New Zealand. The event consists of a team time trial, for six person teams. Over The Hill Cycling Club will be represented by two male teams, and a female team. There is also a sportif for individual cyclists, with large numbers from the club intending to take part. The event HQ is St John the Baptist National School, with sign on opening at 7.45. First team off at 8.30am from Midleton Court house. The sportif commences at 9.30am, also departing from Midleton Court house. The proceeds from the event are being donated to the Straight Ahead Foundation in association with CMRF.
The official club cycle was canceled on Sunday due to the heavy rain. The rain didn't deter all, with Cathy O'Sullivan, Conor MacAree, Jeremy Duane, Marie MacAree, Mike Condon, Mike Horgan, braving the elements for a 35km spin.
There were birthday celebrations in Ballynoe this week for stalwart club member Jerry Fitzgerald who is 70 years young. Jerry is off the bike at the moment following knee repairs. Everyone in the club wishes Jerry a speedy recovery, and a very happy birthday.
